A house shaped as a boat made of stone.
The Chilehaus of Hamburg - an extraordinarily bold architectural design for the year 1920. Henry Sloman, owner of a renowned shipping company in Hamburg, had the building designed as a warehouse office. It has an area of almost 6,000 square meters, 10 floors, and about 36,000 square meters of floor space.
The monumental construction with its deep dark brick facade is architecturally attributed to the so-called brick Gothic style. The name Chile-house refers to the decades of South American business with construction and ship owner Henry Sloman.
