A solitary splash of white in a sea of green

The fascination of beauty: this is the first impression made by the Jenisch House in the Jenisch Park of Hamburg. The history of this beautiful corner of Hamburg goes back to the year 1785, when Caspar Voght started to buy land along the sides of the Flottbek stream. Some 10 years later he had established a model farm on the stately grounds, complete with tree nursery and agricultural college. For his commitment to the welfare of the poor,

Caspar Voght was ultimately knighted. In 1828, the Jenisch family acquired the estate and built their classic-style summer house there. In the publicly accessible Jenisch Park, visitors can enjoy a view of the rare giant trees surrounding the lawns, as well as the nearby Elbe River. The scenic Jenisch Haus contains exhibits of the North German artist Ernst Barlach.
