Speicherstadt Hamburg - a warehouse full of tradition
The historic warehouse and office properties known as the "Speicherstadt" are striking reminders of the long history of the Hanseatic City of Hamburg as a port and trading city. The buildings were strategically built next to the channels of the Elbe river near the city.
The complex was built in the late nineteenth century as a duty-free trade zone. Today the site around the warehouse district is a magnet for visitors from around the world and part of the new, exclusive residential and business district, known as the "Harbor-City" of Hamburg.
